Conditions that change the answer
- The linked Ipe Clip warranty requires authorized-dealer purchase and registration within 45 days, excludes improper installation, and does not pay removal/reinstallation costs. Read the current terms.
- The chart lists air-dried Ipe at 16–20% moisture for Extreme. This is the chart’s condition, not a universal site readiness target.
- Clip dimensions conflict: the 2014 specification gives width .995, tab .148 and leg .242 inch; the current graphic labels 1, .147 and .250 inch. Its fraction labels also conflict with its decimals. No envelope dimension is approved from these references.
- A species name alone does not approve the supplied profile, moisture condition, screw or exposure.
- For saltwater, pool chemicals or treated substrates, verify the complete metal combination and manufacturer corrosion guidance. A stainless insert is not a blanket marine approval.

Dimension reconciliation required
The former simplified Extreme outline has been withdrawn. Manufacturer CAD, dated specifications and current product graphics must be reconciled before publishing a technical model. Published gap requirements remain separate from clip-body dimensions and production fit.

The screw is part of the system
#8 × 2-inch stainless T15 is a published kit configuration. Other lengths/alloys exist; match the supplied kit and joist. Do not treat all stainless screws as interchangeable.
Installation sequence
Establish the starter-board face attachment and plug detail. Verify the selected board and kit before routing.
For the documented Ipe Clip interface, center a 5/32-inch cut, 1/2 inch deep. Check the actual supplied groove.
Hardwood: predrill a 1/8-inch pilot through the board at approximately 45°. Drive the screw through clip, board and into the joist.
Seat the next board on the exposed clip wing. Fasten its opposite edge; do not screw both boards through the same clip. Avoid overdriving.
Composite/PVC uses the manufacturer’s vertical screw path instead. Check the decking brand’s own instructions and kit. Resolve ends, perimeter and board joints separately.
